General Details and Specifications of 275 Gallon IBC Totes

The 275-gallon IBC totes can be made from a variety of different materials though the most common among them is made of high-density plastics, which are caged by galvanized steel. That high-density plastic is often high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and is BPA-free and UV-stabilized. This makes for a highly durable intermediate bulk container that can pass high standards for a stacking test load. IBC totes can also be made of stainless steel or sometimes carbon steel though depending on the size, those options are sometimes not available.

These IBC totes can store liquids, chemicals, hazardous materials, and sometimes powders. If you plan on transporting chemicals within these IBC totes, it is crucial that you ensure you purchase only the highest quality intermediate bulk containers, as a cheap IBC tank can lead to leaks and hazardous disasters.

Most IBC tanks and IBC totes have the same base dimensions to use space efficiently and fit onto standard pallet jacks. Most IBC totes can be recycled but you must check with the manufacturer to know if they have any recommendations or restrictions for reusing an IBC tank.

The main reason companies switch to IBC totes or IBC tanks from things such as 55-gallon drums is because they are the most cost-efficient use for a container to store and transport liquids. The increased capacity and potential lower freight costs (using few containers and saving wasted space) can save a company a lot of money. When a tank is encased in a galvanized steel cage, it becomes solid and easily double-stacks two high to save on floor space.

275 Gal Intermediate Bulk Container Options

A 275-gallon IBC can come with many different options available. They can come with a screw cap, NPT dust cap, NPT valve, feature stacking lugs, and more. They are often FDA food grade though you will want to make sure to check with the manufacturer before you use them for food-grade uses and applications. As most intermediate bulk containers have similar base dimensions, the variance comes in the capacity for each IBC tote, its potential applications, and its material.
